Why Would I Need One?

As of 2025, all boaters will be required to carry a boater card.

All motorized vessel operators regardless of age are required to carry a California Boating Card. It’s the law!

The California Boater Card shows that its holder has successfully taken an approved boating safety course and passed the corresponding exam. Persons 45 years of age or younger
If you are a California resident and have a boater card from outside of California, you will need to complete a California-approved boating safety course, pass the corresponding exam, and apply for your California Boater Card to operate on California waters.
